Wayland Avenue

A community bulletin from the San Jose neighborhood

Thanks for Saving "Eleanor"!

Last year, the City of San Jose ordered the removal of two trees on Wayland Avenue, including a large, 50-year-old shade tree known as "Eleanor" by its neighbors. Compare the size of the tree to the US Postal Service mail truck which enjoys its shade every day.

This tree is a landmark in the community. Described as a "significant tree" by the City of San Jose, the tree should be preserved rather than destroyed -- perhaps even included in the city's Heritage Tree program.

Thanks to widespread community support, the City of San Jose and its arborist agreed to save the landmark tree.
